FlickerTalk

Questions

Do I need a phone number or an email?
No. Your identity is a key made on your phone. You add people by scanning their code or opening their link.
Can FlickerTalk read my messages?
No. Messages are encrypted end to end on your phone. Even the ones waiting in the mailbox can only be read by the recipient's phone.
Where is my chat history?
Only on your phone and on the other person's. There are no cloud backups.
What if I lose my phone?
Your history goes with it: we cannot recover it. If you change phones, use “Move to a new phone” while you still have the old one; it moves your identity and your history directly from one phone to the other.
What if the other phone is off?
If you both have the mailbox on, the message waits there, encrypted, for up to 7 days. If not, it waits on your phone and goes out as soon as the two phones can talk.
Can I use it on two devices?
Not yet: one identity, one phone.
Are there group chats?
No. FlickerTalk is one to one: text, files, voice and video calls.
Why does it ask to send notifications?
So that it can wake up when a message or a call arrives. The notification never contains the message.
How much does it cost?
Free for the first year from installation. After that, €1 per year for adults. Under 18: always free.
How do I delete my data?
In Settings, “Erase this phone” removes your device from our server and erases everything FlickerTalk keeps on the phone. Uninstalling the app erases the phone but leaves your device record on our server; write to info@flickertalk.com with your FlickerTalk ID if that happened.
Is it open source?
Yes, under the AGPL-3.0 licence: github.com/FlickerTalk.
